He Knows the Way

He Knows the Way
"But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold."
— Job 23:10
Today's Story
Fanny Crosby was blinded at six weeks old due to medical error and spent her life writing hymns — over 9,000 of them, many of which became beloved standards of the church: Blessed Assurance, To God Be the Glory, Draw Me Nearer. When asked if she resented the blindness, she replied: 'I have not the slightest feeling of displeasure. I believe it was His intention that I should live my days in physical darkness, so as to be better prepared to sing His praises.' She described a God who knew the way she had to take to become who she was meant to be. The blindness was not His mistake. It was His path — and she trusted the One who knew where it led.
Reflection
Job 23:10 is remarkable for its context: Job doesn't know where God is (verse 8-9: 'I go east, he is not there; I go west, I cannot perceive him'). He cannot find God. But he holds onto this truth: 'But he knows the way that I take.' The contrast is stunning. I cannot find Him, but He has never lost sight of me. And the faith that follows — 'when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold' — is a faith that has decided the refining process is trustworthy even when the Refiner seems absent. You may not be able to trace God's hand in your circumstances today. But He has not lost you. He knows exactly the path you're on and what it's producing. Hold on.
Today's Prayer
Lord, I cannot see You clearly today. But I trust that You see me clearly. You know the way I take. And when the testing is done, I will come forth as gold. Hold me through the fire. Amen.
