Full Armor of God

Full Armor of God
"Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."
— Ephesians 6:11
Today's Story
In the 3rd century, a young Christian soldier named George refused to renounce his faith before the Roman emperor Diocletian. He was known as a man who prayed the full armor of God prayer before battle — not for military victory but for spiritual protection in a pagan empire. His courage in the face of execution inspired thousands of Roman soldiers who subsequently came to faith. Whatever the legendary accretions to his story across the centuries, the historical kernel is simple: a man in uniform chose spiritual armor over imperial protection and chose Christ over Caesar. Millions of believers across the centuries have worn his image as a reminder that the real battle requires real armor.
Reflection
Paul's armor passage in Ephesians 6 is remarkable for what it says about the nature of our struggle: 'not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world' (verse 12). The enemy is not the people who oppose us; it is the spiritual powers working through the situations we face. This reframes everything. The coworker who makes your life difficult is not the enemy — the enemy is using the situation. The political opposition is not the enemy — the enemy is using the division. This doesn't eliminate conflict with people, but it changes how we engage: with armor designed for spiritual warfare, not human conflict. The armor pieces — truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the Word — are all relational with Christ, not weapons aimed at people.
Today's Prayer
Lord, I put on Your armor today — truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, Your Word. I stand against schemes, not people. Protect my heart and mind in the spiritual battle that is always in progress around me. Amen.
