The God Who Provides

"So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, 'On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.'"

— Genesis 22:14

📖

Today's Story

Abraham climbed a mountain called Moriah to sacrifice the thing he loved most — the son who was the fulfillment of every promise God had made him. He went in obedience without understanding. At the critical moment, God intervened: a ram caught in a thicket, provided without explanation, without warning, at the last possible moment. Abraham named the place Jehovah Jireh — the LORD will see to it, the LORD will provide. He had learned something on that mountain that could not have been learned anywhere else: God provides in the moment of surrender, at the last possible moment, with resources that were not visible when the journey began.

Reflection

Jehovah Jireh appears only once in the Bible — on Mount Moriah, in the moment of greatest need. Abraham doesn't discover this name of God in a comfortable season; he discovers it on the way down a mountain carrying wood and a knife, his most beloved possession walking beside him. The provision came at the last moment, not the first. This is significant. God often provides not when we begin the journey of obedience but when we have committed completely to it. The ram in the thicket was there all along — it appeared when the need was absolute. As May ends and June begins, whatever need you carry, the God who named Himself Jireh on a mountain is the same God walking with you today. On the mountain of the LORD, it will be provided.

🙏

Today's Prayer

Jehovah Jireh, You see the need I have and the provision I cannot see. I walk up the mountain trusting that what I need will be there when I need it. You provided for Abraham at the last moment. I trust You for mine. Amen.
