Just a Touch
"And wherever he went — into villages, towns or countryside — they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed."
— Mark 6:56
Today's Story
The word spread from the woman with the issue of blood: even touching the hem of Jesus' garment brought healing. Word travels in communities of need. By Mark 6, the whole region knew — and people were being laid in the marketplaces, positioned wherever Jesus might pass, hoping to reach out and touch the hem. Not a long sermon. Not an elaborate ritual. The edge of His cloak, if they could reach it. The remarkable thing Mark records: 'all who touched it were healed.' Not some. All. No one was turned away who reached.
Reflection
Mark 6:56 is one of the most expansive healing summaries in the Gospels. The scope — wherever He went — and the completeness — all who touched — describe a ministry of healing that was as available as the hem of His garment and as comprehensive as the reach of faith. The theological implication is significant: Jesus was not selectively healing the most deserving. He was healing whoever reached. The initiative was theirs — placing themselves in His path, begging to touch. But the result was His — and it was complete. For every person today who is sick, depleted, desperate, or just barely holding on: the hem is still reachable. The question has never been whether Jesus heals. It is whether you will position yourself to touch the hem.
Today's Prayer
Jesus, I position myself in Your path today. I reach for the hem of Your garment with whatever faith I have. I believe that all who touch are healed. I am touching now. Amen.
