Security in Christ

Safe in His Hands

"I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand."

— John 10:28

📖

Today's Story

A mountaineer described securing a climber with a belay system — a rope and anchor designed to catch a fall. 'The climber's safety doesn't depend on the climber's grip,' she said. 'It depends on the anchor. If the anchor holds, even if the climber loses their grip, they don't fall far.' A pastor who heard this said it was the best description of John 10:28 he had encountered. Our security in Christ does not depend on our grip on Him — it depends on His grip on us. We may lose our grip on faith at times. He never loses His grip on us.

Reflection

John 10:28-29 presents a double security: Jesus' hand and the Father's hand. 'No one will snatch them out of my hand' — and then (verse 29) 'no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.' Both the Son and the Father hold the believer. The passive construction is important: 'no one can snatch' — the believer is not described as maintaining their own grip but as being held. The eternal life given is already given — past tense, complete action. The 'never perish' is categorical. This security is not earned or maintained by performance; it is provided by the character and power of the Shepherd. Your grip on faith may be weak today. His grip on you is not.

🙏

Today's Prayer

Jesus, thank You that my security does not depend on how firmly I hold onto You but on how firmly You hold onto me. I rest in Your grip today. Nothing can snatch me from Your hand. Amen.
