Confident in His Completion

Confident in His Completion
"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
— Philippians 1:6
Today's Story
A woman named Judith struggled for years with the sense that her spiritual life was permanently stunted — that she had somehow gotten stuck and that others around her were growing while she remained where she was. A wise mentor told her: 'Your growth is not your project. It is God's project. You are not the one carrying the work to completion — He is. Your job is to cooperate with what He has already begun in you.' This reframing was liberating: she was not responsible for her own completion, only for her cooperation. 'He who began a good work' — the One who started it knows what the finish looks like. He is not surprised by the current state of the work.
Reflection
Philippians 1:6 is a statement of divine faithfulness applied specifically to the process of sanctification. The one who began the work is God. The good work in view is the transformation of the believer into the image of Christ. The completion point is 'the day of Christ Jesus' — the Second Coming, the final revelation. This means the work is ongoing, necessarily incomplete in this life, and certain to be completed. Paul's confidence is not in the Philippians' consistency; it is in God's character. What God starts, God finishes. Whatever stage of the process you are in today — however messy or incomplete it looks — the One who began it has not abandoned the project. He is still at work.
Today's Prayer
Lord, I am confident not in my progress but in Your faithfulness. You began this work in me. You will carry it to completion. I cooperate with what You are doing. The finish is already determined. Amen.
