Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual Armor

"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."

— Ephesians 6:13

📖

Today's Story

Paul wrote Ephesians 6:10-18 while in prison, surrounded by Roman soldiers. He used what was visible — the soldier's armor — to describe the invisible resources available to the believer. Each piece maps to a spiritual reality: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel shoes, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit. A soldier who survived a battle described the armor: 'You don't think about the armor in the middle of the fight. You were glad you put it on before. The preparation happens before the battle. The armor is put on at home, in the quiet. Then you go out armored for whatever comes.'

Reflection

Ephesians 6:13's instruction is to stand — not advance, not conquer, but stand. The goal of the armored Christian is to hold the ground that has already been taken by Christ. The battle is real — against 'principalities and powers' (verse 12) — but the outcome is not in question. The purpose of the armor is not to win the war (that has been won) but to maintain the ground in the ordinary daily engagement with spiritual opposition. Each piece of armor is a description of what Christ provides: His truth, His righteousness, His gospel, His faith, His salvation, His Word. The armor is His. The standing is yours. Put on the armor. Stand.

🙏

Today's Prayer

Lord, I put on Your full armor today — truth, righteousness, gospel readiness, faith, salvation, Your Word. I stand on the ground You have won. Let me neither advance recklessly nor retreat in fear. I stand. Amen.
