Proverbs, Chapter 3
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
— Proverbs 3:5-6
The command is absolute: all your heart, not part of it. And the prohibition is specific: lean not on your own understanding. Uncertainty is uncomfortable precisely because our understanding fails and we default to leaning on it anyway. We run our scenarios, calculate probabilities, and try to manage outcomes. Proverbs does not say 'abandon thinking' — it says don't lean your whole weight on your own analysis. Give it to God. The word 'submit' means acknowledge Him, bring Him into the calculation. When you do, He straightens paths that seemed hopelessly crooked. This is not a promise that life will be easy but that you will not be lost. A straight path through difficult terrain is still better than a crooked path through easy terrain. Trust clears the way.
Today's Prayer
Lord, I lean into You today. I stop leaning on my limited analysis and submit this uncertainty to You. Make my path straight. Amen.
