Today's Reading
Genesis, Chapter 12
"The LORD had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.'"
— Genesis 12:1
Faith begins with a call that precedes clarity. God tells Abram to leave everything familiar and go to a land he will be shown — not a land he has been told about, but a land he will be directed toward as he goes. This is the structure of every genuine calling: the departure precedes the destination. Abram left at seventy-five, which means he had seventy-five years of ordinary life before the extraordinary call arrived. The ordinary years were not wasted — they were preparing the person who would leave.
Today's Prayer
Lord, give me Abraham's faith — the faith that leaves before it knows the destination. Where You call, I will go. Amen.
