Acts, Chapter 2

📖 Read Chapter

"All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them."

— Acts 2:4

Pentecost was the fulfillment of everything Jesus had promised in John 14-16: the Helper, the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth, would come and be in them. The 120 in the upper room had been waiting and praying for ten days (Acts 1:14). Then — sound like rushing wind, fire above their heads, languages they had never learned coming out of their mouths. The transformation was instant and total. Peter, who fifty days earlier had denied Jesus three times to a servant girl, stood before thousands and preached with fearless authority. This is what the Holy Spirit does: He changes the character of those He fills. Not gradually over years of self-improvement but fundamentally, by His own presence. The same Spirit who came on Pentecost is given to every believer (Romans 8:9). The question is not whether you have the Spirit. It is whether you are walking in Him.

Today's Prayer

Holy Spirit, I want what the disciples had at Pentecost — not as a distant historical event but as a present reality. Fill me fresh today. Amen.
