About the Book
IntroTo confront a spiritually complacent post-exilic community with God's unchanged love and standards - and to close the OT with a promise of Elijah before the great Day.
Malachi: Covenant Faithfulness and the Coming Messenger
Ch. 1-4The last prophetic voice of the Old Testament rebukes a complacent, cynical community for half-hearted worship and covenant neglect — then closes with the promise of the messenger who will prepare the way before the great and dreadful Day of the Lord.
Malachi closes the Old Testament on a note of expectation: the messenger is coming, Elijah will appear, the Day is near. The canonical silence that follows makes the Annunciation more dramatic.
