About the Book
IntroTo demonstrate God's providential care through ordinary acts of loyalty and kindness, to show that Gentiles can be included in God's covenant people through faith, and to trace the genealogy leading to David and ultimately Christ.
Loyalty in Adversity
Ch. 1-2Naomi returns from Moab bereft of husband and sons; her Moabite daughter-in-law Ruth refuses to leave her, and both arrive in Bethlehem where Ruth begins gleaning in Boaz's field.
Introduces the book's central themes of covenant loyalty and divine providence, showing that God's care reaches even destitute foreign widows.
The Kinsman-Redeemer
Ch. 3-4Naomi instructs Ruth to approach Boaz at the threshing floor; he agrees to redeem her, navigates the legal process, marries Ruth, and she bears a son who becomes the grandfather of David.
The kinsman-redeemer (go'el) practice becomes a living picture of God's redemptive work, pointing ultimately to Christ who pays the full price to reclaim what was lost.
