Today's Reading

Matthew, Chapter 6

📖 Read Chapter

"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

— Matthew 6:6

Jesus describes a prayer that happens in hiddenness — behind a closed door, with an unseen Father. This is a corrective to prayer-as-performance, where the goal is to be seen by others. But it is also an invitation: there is a kind of intimacy with God that is only possible in the secret place. The closed door keeps out distractions and the watching of others. It creates the conditions for honest conversation rather than curated presentation. 'Your Father who sees in secret' — the seeing is God's. The reward is not applause but a deepened relationship with a God who was watching when no one else was. Beginning a practice of daily private prayer is the foundation of everything else this week. Not long, not elaborate — just honest, daily, consistent. Five minutes of honest prayer beats an hour of performance.

Today's Prayer

Father, I come into the secret place with You today. No audience, no performance. Just me and You. Meet me here. Amen.
